From the Rider’s Seat
By Roy Hooper
One of the things we tried this year that was suggested by some members was to have a different starting point if we are headed in a particular direction.  So if our ride is heading north of Ojai we now meet at the Full of Beans in Ojai and if we head east we meet at the Fillmore Starbucks. This has worked out well and it gives us a little more time to ride as a group.   Thanks again for your suggestions and comments, keep them coming so I know what's on your minds.

On our rides I am seeing more of you wearing protective gear so I want to pat you on the back for that.  I've been riding since 1980 and up until 2004 I wore high top tennis shoes, jeans and t-shirt and then finally started buying armored clothing.  I don't have any leather clothing because it doesn't breathe and I did find some nice armored textile jacket and pants at Cal Coast Motorsports and with our 15% discount I got them both for $300, which would be a lot less then your typical hospital bill.  I realize it's not in everyones budget but when you do purchase some armored gear you will be better off.

November Ride
Wrightwood
By Richard Sweet, Jeff Lardner, Roy Hooper
We had a good turnout at the Fillmore Starbucks and after our pre-ride talk we made our way to San Francisquito Canyon and then right on Spunky Canyon.  On Spunky one of our riders went down on a tight right turn that gets even tighter and thankfully there was no oncoming traffic when the rider slid across the road.  After assessing the situation it was decided that Roy, George and Kitty Robinson and John and June Muller would follow the injured rider and bike back to their home while the rest of the group would continue their way to Wrightwood.  The next day the rider went to the hospital and had their lacerated liver and other issues taken care of.  I and the injured rider want to thank everyone on the ride for coming to this persons aide and helping out. Thank you.

The rest of the group continued on to Wrightwood for lunch outdoors in sunny mild 58 temps.  Richard Sweet dropped back on Mt Emma Rd after waving off the sweeper to get some fuel. We knew he was concerned about enough fuel to Wrightwood (we did the math later and doubtful he would have made it). The ride with 5 was at a nice pace as George Crespo led the rest of the day. Richard continued on to Wrightwood with a full tank of gas and had a good lunch while the rest of the group wrapped up their day by returning to the Fillmore 'Bucks to yak awhile and trade teases and barbs.
Riders today were George Robinson and Kitty, John and June Muller, George Crespo, Richard Sweet, Bill Muneio, Bill Cobb, Jeff Lardner, Denise Hill and Roy.

November Overnighter
Hearst Castle

By Roy Hooper

An overnight ride to tour the Hearst Castle has been discussed many times and finally everything fell into place. George Crespo came up with a route and I came up with accommodations at the San Simeon Lodge which turned out to be a good place to stay and eat.  We had a  good turnout but I was surprised that other members that had talked about this didn't make it.
On the way up there George led us on a leisurely pace and we stopped at old town Arroyo Grande for lunch. Afterwards we hit some more nice backroads and made our way to the Lodge at around 5.  Then at 6 we headed to the Castle for a great tour by a tour guide who had worked there for over 20 years but talked with such enthusiasm as if it was his first week.  That was great.  I have been wanting to take this tour for a long time and am pleased it finally happened and will go back for the different tours.

So we headed back to the Lodge and had dinner.  The following morning George led us to highway 33 in Central California since we would take that way home and avoid the 101 jam up in Santa Barbara.  At each stop I checked the CHP site on my iPhone for any bike accidents on 33 since this was a weekend.  There were no incidents up to the last stop before we headed past Lockwood Valley and of course in that time frame 2 sport bikes both from different groups collided head on around Rose Vally cutoff.  Luckily there were no fatalities but we  had to wait an hour for the clean up and then off we went to our homes after another fun Cal Coast Riders overnighter.  Thanks to George Crespo for leading this ride and thanks to the Members for "behaving" so we could all have a good time.
Riders on the Hearst Castle Overnighter-
George Crespo, Neil Ingram, George Robinson and Kitty,  Richard Gomes and Roy Hooper.
